The company is a Japan subsidiary of trading and services Group in the fields of renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy and bioenergy, headquartered in Europe.
The main goal for the new Managing Director Japan is the effective oversight and leadership of the solar PV team, including management of the critical construction and financing phase for ongoing projects, as well as the strategic development of the company’s business to develop new solar PV projects in Japan as well as establish other businesses where the opportunity arises.
Market Knowledge – The Managing Director Japan must understand the interrelationships between the company, business partners and competitors as well as regulators/public bodies; and be able to capitalise on this knowledge to implement the projects profitably as well as seize opportunities that would extend the company’s market share with new projects. The Managing Director Japan must be able to understand the implications of market trends and to draw conclusions for appropriate actions.
Performance – The Managing Director Japan should be capable of acquiring and successfullyimplementing solar projects to achieve a performance above budgetary projection. The Managing Director Japan will be required to negotiate complex, long-term contracts and to get Group buy-in to the business context and risk profile of such contracts. He should be able to develop business proposals and to initiate and successfully conclude complex business transactions.
Stakeholder Management – The Managing Director Japan must be committed to a transparentcommunication style, with a stakeholder/customer-oriented approach and a good track record in identifying stakeholder/customer needs and converting them into profitable business initiatives.
Leadership – The Managing Director Japan will have a natural entrepreneurial tendency and show a desire to lead from the front, explaining the business context and opportunity to others and encourage others to stretch themselves within the corporate framework. The Managing Director Japan should be able to show recognition for concrete achievements, support and encouragement in the event of failures or mistakes.
Collaboration – The Managing Director Japan will be able to build close partnering relationships with project developers, local authorities, business partners and colleagues; and ensure that the mutual interests of all parties are met. The Managing Director Japan will show an ability to recognise sources of conflict, such as cultural, functional or geographic issues and act to resolve them.
Language skills – The Managing Director Japan is native Japanese and speaks and writes fluently in English or a foreigner with strong Japanese language skills.
Education – The Managing Director Japan has had a higher education, preferably a degree in Civil Engineering or business administration, or equivalent experience in real estate development, project management business or electrical engineering.
The candidate should be well acquainted with the steps of PV project management, i.e. real estate, construction or similar. The candidate should be a “hands on” person with a “roll-up the sleeves and can do” attitude, comfortable with working towards targets and objectives and with operation in the Japanese and international business environment. The candidate knows how to lead an organization within the bandwidth of sensitive to demanding, how to analyse markets and develop these with tailored and profitable strategies.
This position requires a minimum of 8 years market and leadership experience in Japan as well as a longer-term commitment to the company. He reports directly to the Regional Director of Solar Projects.
